Scoring Goals with Math _ PLAYER STATISTICS

 

Objective

Students will learn to calculate averages, ratios, and percentages using soccer players’ performance statistics.

2. Player Profiles (10 minutes):

3. Math Challenges (20 minutes):

 

Averages:

Calculate the average goals scored per game for each player.

Example: Messi’s goals per game = 35 ÷ 50 = 0.7 goals/game.

– Ratios:

 

Compare player performance, e.g., for every goal Messi scores, how many assists does he make?

– Percentages:

Determine what percentage of the total goals scored in the table belong to each player.

4. Extension Activity (Optional):

Create bar graphs or pie charts to visually represent the players’ performances.

5. Discussion and Reflection (10 minutes):

Which player would you recruit for your team, based on the data? Why?

 Discuss how math can help coaches and analysts make decisions.
